In 1911, a butter cow with a barefoot farmer boy helping a calf find her breakfast, was exhibited by Beatrice Creamery in the Agriculture Building. It was sculpted from “Pure Meadow Gold Butter” by John K. Daniels, a well-known sculptor from Minnesosta. Daniels was born in 1874 in Norway, and in 1884 moved with his family to St. Paul Minnesota. Butter sculptures at the Fair go back to at least 1907, when six-foot butter statues of U. S. Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson, and Iowa Governor Albert Cummins were on display in the Agriculture Building.
